About Desray Lithgow
I have always considered myself fortunate. Great parents, enjoying a wonderful childhood, endless summer days spent swimming at the lake, and being instilled with the belief that I was able to do anything if I put my mind to it, plus lots of family time made for wonderful memories.
I am a New Zealand Maori of Ngai Tai and Tuwharetoa iwi (tribes) as well as being of European decent. Lucky me! Yet that fact made me different. I felt different, thought different and looked different. That difference I have come to appreciate.
My painting is about discovering me, Desray. Seeing things from a different angle, putting my spin on the world. I don't need to be revolutionary, just me. Although at the time I went kicking and screaming to painting lessons so to speak, making it quite clear that this class would be a purely social event for me, I discovered a passion for painting in New Zealand in 2007 when invited by my dear friend Thereza.
My family and I moved to the USA in 2008, settling first in Corvallis, Oregon for 4 years. A great place to raise a family, a wonderful introduction to the USA, and an opportunity to make wonderful friends and begin our adventure. Having moved to Bend, Oregon in 2012, we have fallen in love with the Deschutes area. It has a wonderful positive feeling to it, although it is the largest town we have ever lived in, that sense of size isn't overwhelming, it seems more like a beautiful country town with so much to offer in terms of the outdoors.
I trust you enjoy my artwork as much as I enjoy creating it. May the sun shine on your slice of paradise.
